Rumor: China Unicom to Launch WCDMA SIM Card Sticker

Sina Tech, 9/23/11

An industry source said recently that China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) would launch a WCDMA SIM card overlay that would allow users of SIM and USIM cards from major Chinese and international operators to use two numbers from the same handset concurrently. Users of the card overlays can use their previously existing numbers to place calls, and switch to the Unicom WCDMA SIM for 3G data access. The source said that the card was aimed to address China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) subscribers' complaints of slow mobile internet speeds and restrictive data plans.
