At the 5th Annual International Mobile Internet Conference in Beijing earlier this week, Shen Jia of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) China Academy of Telecommunication Research said large-scale TD-LTE trials may enter their second phase of testing by the end of this year.
According to new global handset market figures released yesterday by market research firm IDC, Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) had Q3 2011 shipments of 19.1 mln handsets, surpassing Apple to gain a firm fourth-place position with 4.9% of the global market.
Li Qi, head of consumer electronics sales at Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) Beijing branch, revealed yesterday that standard LCD TV sets will gradually be replaced by LED TV sets in first tier city markets by the Chinese New Year holidays in late January 2012.
At a work meeting on direct-broadcast satellite (DBS) service region planning convened by China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) in Beijing on October 31, Wang Xiaojie, director of SARFT's Department of Science and Technology, said that China's national "Huhutong" rural DBS initiative aims to deploy 10 mln "Huhutong" DBS satellite TV receivers by year's end, growing to 50 mln in 2012 and 200 mln by 2015.
