Beijing Mobile Launches Corporate Push-to-Talk Service

Beijing Morning Post, 11/04/11

Beijing Mobile recently announced its launch of a new Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) service, available for RMB 30 per month to corporate users. Compatible terminals start at RMB 800. Carried over China Mobile networks, voice communications are transmitted with a delay of between 1-2 seconds. A spokesperson for the service said that the earliest it will be offered to individual users will be sometime next year, but that subscription costs will also have been lowered by that time.

Most PoC services currently available on the market consist of one of two types: analog PoC, the less expensive option, operates on terminals with a range of 3 kilometers and is commonly used by residential security guards; and digital PoC, priced at RMB 120-150 per month with terminals costing between RMB 7,000-9,000, is mainly used in occupations which require a secure network, such as traffic police.
