Suning, IBM Partner on E-Commerce, Cloud Computing

Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning (002024.SZ) has formed an e-commerce strategic alliance with IBM, which will provide services such as systems architecture design and customer value-added services to Suning.

IBM will build a "Global E-commerce Center of Excellence" in Nanjing, and work with Suning over the coming 3-5 years to expand its e-commerce operations to a workforce of around 15,000 staff and develop IT, product design, technical R&D, and quality management systems. In addition, the two companies will explore business models for cloud computing applications in e-commerce operations, as well as options in joint operation models.

IBM and Suning will also form a partnership management committee, on which will sit Suning chairman of Chinese consumer electronics Zhang Jindong, IBM senior vice president of global business services Frank Kern, and IBM greater China CEO Qian Daqun.
