Rumor: China Unicom to Support In-App Ads, New Fees

Netease Tech, 12/05/11

China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) Wo Store app store will soon support three new types of app fees as well as in-app mobile ads, according to a source at the operator. Unicom will offer try-before-you-buy payment, monthly (or periodic) fees, and in-app activation fees. Wo Store will also allow developers to embed in-app ads.

Wo Store will link to SNS and address book clients to allow application sharing, and partner with other app stores to provide Wo Store users with on-deck search of other stores' offerings.

Wo Store, which launched on November 10, 2010, has reached over 3 mln registered users and more than 60 mln downloads, has registered over 6,000 developers, and offers over 16,000 applications.
