Hangzhou-based photo sharing SNS operator Wei Ju Networks today announced it has obtained seven-digit USD funding from VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) for its site Huaban.com. Funding was deposited in its entirety as of today.
The site provides users with a simple interface to upload, organize and share photos.
Founder Liu Pingyang disclosed that since the site began issuing invitation codes on November 14, it has reached nearly 100,000 users and over 300,000 photos have been uploaded. The site also supports video content, and a mobile application will be released by the end of this month.
Prior to launching Huaban, Liu founded Wei Ju Networks with another photo sharing SNS, Yupoo.com, in 2005. Liu sold the company to Hangzhou-based blog platform BlogCN six months later. Liu later bought back Wei Ju Networks, which launched its Upyun.com cloud storage service in 2010. Yupoo currently has 4 mln users.
Liu added that Huaban currently has over 20 employees, and is currently recruiting new operations personnel.
