Alibaba Hires U.S. Lobbying Firm for Yahoo Bid

Netease Tech, 12/29/11

According to industry sources, Hangzhou-based e-commerce company Alibaba Group has engaged Washington, D.C. lobbying firm Duberstein Group in preparation for a possible bid for Yahoo.

In a disclosure document from Duberstein Group, Japan's Softbank is listed as an affiliate of Alibaba Group. The document also lists the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz as the acting intermediary between Alibaba Group and Duberstein Group.

This is the first time that Alibaba Group has registered to lobby the U.S. government. The lobbying registration was received by the concerned US senate office on December 23, 2011, and subsequently posted online.
