Beijing-based Android handset developer Xiaomi has unveiled a CDMA2000 EV-DO version of its smartphone, priced at RMB 2,199, which will go on sale in March. Xiaomi will sell 1,000 commemorative editions on February 16 through a lottery at RMB 1,699 each.
The China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) version of the Xiaomi smartphone features a 1.5GHz 8660 Qualcomm dual-core processor and quad-mode support (CDMA2000, WCDMA, GSM, and CDMA), while all other functionality is identical to the WCDMA version. The phone will be available in both silver and black.
Xiaomi chairman and CEO Lei Jun did not disclose any details regarding China Telecom contracts, but did say that a contract-free retail version will also be sold.
