SARFT Issues New Rules for TV Talent Shows

Gansu Daily, 2/09/12

China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has issued new regulations for TV talent show programming. The new rules require that song content must account for at least 80% of singing competition programming, while other content, including host speeches, commentary, interviews with contestants and their friends and relatives, must account for no more than 20%. Feedback from judges and guests should be fair, brief, and provide guidance to both contestants and the audience. All forms of audience voting via mobile, internet, telephone or other means, are prohibited.
