Alibaba Sacks GM of Juhuasuan

Netease Tech, 3/06/12

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group announced today that it had dismissed Yan Limin as general manager of the Alibaba group buy site Juhuasuan. Yan has been replaced by Zhang Yu, the Alibaba Group's VP for strategy. Yan was named GM of Juhuasuan in October 2011.

Alibaba said that Yan had been dismissed for dereliction of duty. According to the company, irregularities began to occur in Juhuasuan's recruitment of merchants in mid-2011 with continual reports of sales agents attempting to profit for themselves from business arrangements. An investigation found some of the reports to be accurate, and some sales agents to be in violation of company policy - and, in some cases, the law. Overall, Juhuasuan was found to have gaping oversights in its operations and team management.
