An industry source revealed today that Kingsoft Games, a subsidiary of Chinese software developer and online entertainment provider Kingsoft (3888.HK), is planning a major restructuring in which it will merge a number of its R&D studios with its Westhouse studio.
Following the consolidation, Kingsoft Games will reportedly keep Westhouse as its sole R&D brand. All projects underway at other studios will be subject to review and restructuring.
Editor's Note: On its website, Kingsoft currently lists four R&D studios: Westhouse, Jingcai, Qichenzhai, Yading. Kingsoft originally had eight game developer studios - Lihuo, Lijan, Leiting, Shangshuixuan, Jingcai, Qichenzhai, Yading, and Chengdu Xishanju (Season Studio) - but at the end of 2010 disbanded Lijian and Shangshuixuan, and then in April 2011 disbanded Lihuo. In January 2011, Chengdu Xishanju and Zhuhai Kingsoft Online Game Technology were merged to form Westhouse.
