Taiwan-based DigiTimes quoted a PC manufacturer today as saying that Intel plans to release a new tablet computer product, codenamed "StudyBook," targeted at China, Brazil, and other developing markets. The StudyBook will feature a 10" display and an Intel Medfield processor.
The StudyBook will be announced during the second half of this year, both for the educational procurement market and retail channels, where it will sell for less than USD 299.
Elite Group Computer Systems, the Shenzhen and Suzhou-based OEM for Intel's Classmate PCs, predicts that it will begin producing StudyBooks for Intel this year. Chinese manufacturer Wanlida (002180.SZ), owner of the Malata consumer electronics brand, also expects to receive manufacturing contracts for the tablet from Intel.
