Sina Microblog Issues Manual for Government Accounts

Beijing Youth Daily, 5/15/12

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) issued the "Government Microblog Operation Handbook" on May 14. The handbook offers "12 Dos" and "12 Don'ts," including recommendations that government microblog accounts tolerate netizen opprobrium, process complaints in a timely fashion, actively seek out and participate in public conversations, avoid prevarication, abjure flame wars, and ensure that personal Weibo accounts for political figures are "appropriately appealing to user tastes."

A Sina employee said that the handbook had been recommended to governmental agencies and employees already on the company's Weibo service, and would also be offered as a training material for new agencies and politicians joining the service.
