SINO Market Research recently released a report on the state of China's mobile security market and industry trends in Q1 2012. Within that quarter, the report found, there were a total of 118 mln activated users of mobile security products in China. Chinese mobile security provider NQ Mobile (NYSE: NQ) led in terms of registered users with 74.34 mln users, or 63% of the market. Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU) followed with 28.91 mln registered users, or 24.5% of the market, while Tencent (0700.HK) came in third with 12.15 mln users, or 10.3% of the market.
66.25 mln mobile phones were sold in China during Q1 2012, the report found. 60.6% of these were 3G handsets, as the technology continues to gain in market share. Smartphones accounted for an increasingly large percentage of the market at 46.8% of all handsets sold, and 71.2% of 3G handsets sold. Android continued to expand its lead in the smartphone operating system market, with 74.7% of smartphones. 59.9% of smartphones sold were priced at RMB 1,500 or less.
