China Unicom Solicits IPTV STB Bids from 16 Vendors

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has begun reviewing qualifications of 16 prospective suppliers for a 1.3 mln unit IPTV set-top box (STB) procurement tender. Those with sufficient qualifications will submit products for testing to each provincial subsidiary. The tender is for 650,000 high-definition STBs and 650,000 standard-definition STBs.

The 16 companies invited to submit bids all participated in IPTV STB testing last year, and are as follows: ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI), Huawei, Fiberhome (600498.SH), Motorola, Haier, Hisense, LeTV (300104.SZ), Shenzhou Electronic, Newland Computer (000997.SZ), DareGlobal, Ericsson, Onewave Technologies, Skyworth (0751.HK), Channelsoft, and Sunniwell Broadband Digital Science & Technology.
