India Denies Restrictions on Chinese Telecom Vendors

People's Daily, 8/31/12

In an August 30 phone interview, a spokesperson for the Indian government's Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) International Relations division denied recent media reports that the DoT would no longer cooperate with Chinese telecommunications enterprises. The spokesperson emphasized the DoT's willingness to continue expanding the scope of its cooperation with Chinese enterprises, stating that the document cited by Indian media was an internal DoT document summing up the department's development of international partnerships over the preceding year. Rather than naming China one of the "most untrustworthy nations," as Indian media reported, the document recognized China as one of the most important trade partners for the Indian telecommunications industry.
