Former Netease Editor Unveils 'Dakele' Handset Brand

Sina Tech, 9/27/12

Ding Xiuhong, a former Managing Editor at Netease (Nasdaq: NTES), today announced a new mobile handset brand, "Dakele." Dakele.com, the official website for the new brand, was launched today. The company has launched a promotional contest to sell the first 100 models of the "Dakele" handset for RMB 1. The winners of the contest will be chosen via lottery.

Ding did not reveal any details about the phone or its release date. Ding left his position at Netease in June.

Editor's Note: "Dakele" means "Big Cola" in Chinese. The "Dakele" handset follows a string of food and drink related handset models in China such as the Dami, or "Rice", handset from handset maker Dami Shidai and the Xiaomi, or "Millet," handset from Android handset developer Xiaomi.
