Sky-mobi Records Q2 FY 2013 Loss of RMB 12 Mln

Hangzhou-based mobile software platform developer Sky-mobi (Nasdaq: MOBI) has announced its financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2012. Q2 FY 2013 revenue decreased 19.3% YoY to RMB 139.8 mln (USD 22.3 mln) from RMB 173.2 mln a year before.
Net loss in Q2 FY 2013 was RMB 11.7 mln (USD 1.9 mln), as compared to net profit of RMB 7.1 mln in Q2 FY 2012.
Revenue collected from carrier channels was RMB 99.4 mln (USD 15.8 mln) in Q2 FY 2013, down 30.9% YoY and representing 71.1% of total revenues. Sky-mobi had 3.1 bln user visits and 657.2 mln downloads of applications and content from the Maopao application store in Q2 FY 2013, decreases of 37.8% and 22.2% YoY, respectively, compared to 4.9 bln user visits and 845.2 mln downloads in Q2 FY 2012. The decreases in application store user activity and downloads was primarily due to the continued decline of feature phone market share as a percentage of overall mobile device shipments in China.
Revenue collected from third party channels was RMB 36.8 mln (USD 5.9 mln), up 39.8% YoY from Q2 FY 2012 and contributing 26.3% of total revenues. Sky-mobi's Maopao Community had 15.0 mln active members and 778.4 mln member log-ins in Q2 FY 2013, representing decreases of 10.3% and 46.0% YoY, respectively, compared to 16.7 mln active members and 1.4 bln member log-ins in Q2 FY 2012. Revenues from the Maopao Community increased due to higher spending per active member deriving from the company's two most popular mobile social games, "Fantasy of Three Kingdoms" and "Fairy Magic World." The company expects that revenues collected from third party channels will contribute a steady and increasing percentage of total revenues in future quarters, as Sky-mobi focuses on growing its active mobile community member base and on diversifying revenue collection methods away from traditional carrier-based payment channels.
For the fiscal third quarter 2013 ending December 31, 2012, Sky-mobi expects total revenues to be in the range of RMB 120 mln to RMB 130 mln.
