2012 Smartphone Sales in China to Grow 137%

Total smartphone sales in China are estimated to reach 189 mln units for a growth rate of 137% YoY in 2012, according to Digitimes Research. Sales of Android-based smartphones are expected to reach 157 mln units, up 260% YoY.

Owing to increasing uptake of TD-SCDMA and EDGE models, two technologies for which international brands have been less focused on supporting, domestic brands are expected to comprise 61% of China's 2012 smartphone market, up 29 percentage points YoY.
