China Mobile to Launch Low-Cost TD-LTE Smartphone in 2015

During his visit to Taiwan, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) President Li Yue said that the operator will announce an RMB 1,000 TD-LTE smartphone in 2015.

Li said that China Mobile is at work on a global roaming plan for smartphones with TD-LTE and FDD-LTE support, and hopes to cooperate with manufacturers.

China Mobile deployed approximately 20,000 TD-LTE base stations in 2012 and procured 80,000 terminal devices. According to Li, TD-LTE coverage could reach 30% to 35% on the Chinese mainland in 2013.
