Rumor: The9 Prepares to Go Private

China Business News, 3/12/13

An industry source told China Business News on March 11 that Zhu Jun, chairman and CEO of Shanghai-based online game developer and operator The9 (Nasdaq: NCTY), is currently meeting overseas with representatives of investment banks and private funds in order to secure large-scale funding support. Reliable industry sources say that Zhu could be preparing to use the funds to take The9 private.

The cost will reportedly be split by The9 shareholders, private equity firms, and banks, according to a reliable source. Zhu Jun will need funds in order to ensure that he remains the majority shareholder of the "new The9."
