Rumor: Alibaba Acquires Mobile App Analytics Platform

Sina Tech, 2/25/13

According to various Chinese tech sites, e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has purchased an unnamed domestic mobile developer data statistics platform for USD 70 mln. The platform is rumored to be Umeng, a mobile application analytics platform incubated by Innovation Works. Neither Alibaba nor Umeng have commented on the matter.

In May 2010, Umeng released its first data analytics product, providing mobile statistics services for China's Android and iOS application developers. In November 2010, Umeng obtained angel funding from Innovation Works, and in July 2011, completed a USD 10 mln first-round of funding led by Matrix Partners.
