Chinese Premier: MIIT to Issue 4G Licenses by Year-End

Xinhuanet, 7/12/13

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced at a recent meeting of China's State Council that China will release 4G operator licenses by the end of 2013, as well as expand 3G coverage and improve 3G service quality. Li also laid out plans to advance China's three-network convergence efforts nationwide throughout the year, and encouraged participation of private capital investment in the telecom market.

Li also stressed the importance of driving further development in China's Internet of Things and e-commerce sectors, and realizing at least 20% average annual growth in IT-related consumer spending in each of the last three years of China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).
