Rumor: Baidu to Launch Vertical Search VAS

The Beijing News, 7/17/13

According to an internal announcement, Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) vertical search division and vertical search product and marketing division have been integrated into the company's consumer-facing value-added services division. Vertical search division leader Hu Hao and his entire team have been re-assigned under the supervision of Baidu VP Wang Zhan.

According to a Baidu insider, the reshuffling was done to explore a new growth model based on providing value-added services in the news, image, and video search categories, although no details were provided about specific fees. The company declined to comment on the matter.

Baidu's gaming division was the first Baidu division to join the company's consumer-facing value-added services division, according to previous reports
