AliCloud to Enter Overseas Market in 2014

Tencent Tech, 12/24/13

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group's cloud services subsidiary, Alibaba Cloud Computing Limited (AliCloud), has stated that the company is preparing to enter the overseas cloud services market. AliCloud plans to establish a cloud data center overseas that will provide cloud computing services to international Chinese enterprises and local enterprises overseas. The plan is expected to be formally announced in March 2014.

A portion of AliCloud expansion capital will come directly from Alibaba Group, as opposed to from the subsidiary's own reserves. According to AliCloud business division director Zhang Jing, AliCloud has partnered with a number of data center operators as part of its overseas expansion, and AliCloud overseas business will be carried out under a joint operation model.
