China's E-Commerce Platforms to Offer 7-Day Unconditional Return Policy

Saic.gov.cn, 2/13/14

China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) has issued new regulations requiring all e-commerce platforms to offer 7-day unconditional return policies to customers, effective March 15. Unless otherwise agreed, customers will bear the cost of return shipping.

Product categories not bound by the new returns regulation include: customized products, perishable goods, downloadable digital media, opened packages of media products and software, and newspapers.

Individuals who operate e-commerce businesses on e-commerce open platforms must provide platforms with their real names, addresses, ID numbers, and contact information. In addition, e-commerce merchants and platforms may not reveal or sell personal information obtained from customers to others without permission.
