Online Education Provider Secures Alibaba Funding

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has announced that the company has led a new round of investment in Shanghai-based online education provider TutorGroup, with total investment nearing USD 100 mln. Singapore-based Temasek and Qiming Venture Partners also participated in the new round of funding.

TutorGroup was founded in Shanghai in 2004 as an English education services provider. In April 2012, TutorGroup received USD 15 mln in first-round funding from Qiming Ventures.

TutorGroup operates four main services: English teaching brands VIPABC and TutorABC, children's English education brand TutorABC Jr, and Mandarin Chinese learning site Tutorming.
