MIIT: China's 2013 Color TV Production Reaches 128 Mln Units

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released 2013 color TV industry data today. According to the data, China produced over 127.76 mln color TVs in 2013, marking a YoY decline of 0.4%. TV set sales revenue in China in Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 2013 reached RMB 140.7 bln, RMB 166.5 bln, RMB 164.5 bln, and RMB 187.1 bln, respectively, marking increases of 14.0%, 16.2%, 3.3%, and 2.4% YoY.
Data from Chinese customs officials shows that China exported more than 59.59 mln color TVs in 2013 worth USD 11.05 bln, marking YoY drops of 3.1% by volume and 8.6% by value, respectively. LCD TV exports accounted for 91.5% by volume and 96.4% by value of total TV exports.
In 2013, China's color TV industry completed its transition from CRT to flat screen TVs, with LCD TV production volume reaching more than 122.9 mln units and accounting for 96.2% of all color TVs produced. This marks a 7.2 percentage point increase as compared to 2012.
China's 2014 color TV industry is exhibiting trends toward larger screen sizes. The penetration rate of 50-inch or larger LCD TVs is expected to rise from 12% in 2013 to approximately 16% in 2014, while 40-inch to 49-inch TV penetration rates are expected to rise from 18% in 2013 to approximately 23% for 2014. 32-inch or smaller screens are estimated to drop from 48% penetration in 2013 to 42% in 2014.
