Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has unveiled iOS version 5.2.1 of its WeChat (Weixin) mobile instant messaging service. The latest version of the app allows users to add location tags when posting images to their WeChat 'Moments' photo sharing wall, with available tags including the names of nearby restaurants or scenic areas based on information from online ratings and group buy site Dianping. Users can also view which WeChat friends have visited their same locations, and view comments regarding the corresponding restaurant or scenic area. Prior to the latest version of WeChat, users could only append location information that included city and province names.
The latest version of WeChat also allows users to initiate video chats by clicking on a new button on a contact's profile page.
