Sarft.net, 3/26/14

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the State Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) are nearing completion on a joint set of standards governing smart TV operating systems (OS) in China, according to an announcement from the MIIT. Smart TV OS technology requirements have been jointly determined by the two organizations, and the standards will be published shortly.

According to data released by Beijing-based TV market research firm A-View Consulting (AVC), cumulative shipments of smart TVs in China are expected to reach 31.28 mln units in 2014, bringing China's smart TV penetration rate to 69%. Many of China's TV manufacturers have announced plans to invest heavily in smart TV operating systems, TV apps, and other related products in 2014.
