Rumor: Xiaomi, Leadcore JV to Release Low-cost Handset Chip

Sina Tech, 11/07/14

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Datang Telecom (600198.SH) has issued a public filing announcing that its fully owned subsidiary Leadcore Technology has signed a technology licensing agreement with Beijing-based Songguo Electronics. Under the agreement, Songguo Electronics paid RMB 103 mln for the technology rights to Leadcore's SDR1860 platform. The two companies will also partner on the design and development of a 4G multimodal SOC chipset series.

Songguo Electronics is a joint venture between Beijing-based Android device maker Xiaomi (51%) and Leadcore (49%). The announcement has spurred rumors that Xiaomi will release a smartphone running on a Xiaomi-branded low-cost SDR1860 chipset this December.
