Tencent to Invest RMB 2 Bln in Tencent Cloud over Next 12 Months

Dowson Tong, VP at Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK), recently revealed that the company will invest RMB 2 bln into cloud infrastructure, operations, recruiting and marketing over the next 12 months. Tencent plans to spend at least RMB 10 bln on its cloud business in the coming 5 years.

Tencent has also announced 12 new cloud services featuring new technologies such as facial recognition and interactive live broadcasting. It is expected that more information on these technologies and their applications will be released soon.

The group provides cloud services to almost 300 start-up companies and more than 20 local governments including Shenzhen and Shanghai.
