Baidu Cloud Develops Online Gene Data Analytics Platform for BGI

Sohu IT, 3/08/17

Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) cloud services division Baidu Cloud has set up an online platform called "BGI BRCA Online" for genomics research company BGI, which will provide gene sequencing data analysis for research and applications into hereditary breast and ovarian cancers.

Baidu Cloud has also created a cloud system for Beijing-based biotech company CapitalBio Technology, which will provide gene sequencing data analysis for research and clinical diagnosis of rare and hereditary diseases.

As part of its partnership with medical research groups, Baidu Cloud will design machine learning algorithms to explore the significance of gene mutations in several diseases, such as esophageal cancer and diabetes. The company hopes to apply AI to improve the interpretation of genetic data.

Editor's Note: BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppressing genes. Note that Sohu IT did not specify with which of the companies under BGI Holdings (e.g. Beijing Genomics Institute, BGI Genomics, etc.) Baidu would be cooperating.
