Taobao to Prohibit Sales of Japanese-language Games

Chanye.18183.com, 8/04/17

The video games channel of Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) C2C e-commerce site Taobao recently announced that it will no longer sell Japanese-language gaming products.

The announcement said that due to new requirements from government regulators, merchants selling game software, along with game software platform operators, are now required to update their stock to remove retail online game products which feature the Japanese language. Taobao will also prohibit the sale of game software products that are identified as "Japanese-language edition" in their Taobao description, product image, or product description. Merchants and platform operators have been asked to remove prohibited items starting August 4 through August 8, and product listings that are in violation of the rules will be deleted.
