Chinese B2C e-commerce platform JD.com (Nasdaq: JD) and Beijing-based online movie ticket booking platform operator Weiying Times Technology recently signed a strategic partnership agreement to launch a new "Jingyu Program," which will see both parties ally on movie ticketing and intellectual property (IP) marketing.
Under the partnership, the parties will combine their movie ticket service and e-commerce strengths to cooperate on films, performances, sports events, and derivate products. They will make use of their complementary resources and connect their sales networks, accelerate development of IP-related industry chains, and create new ticket sales products for enterprise customers.
In addition to setting up an IP publicity platform, the partners will create platforms for IP derivative product distribution and IP investment and incubation, with the aim of developing IP incubation, licensing, funding, investment, and derivative business operations.
The partnership with Weiying Times is part of JD.com's efforts to develop a pan-entertainment business ecosystem, which is beginning to see results after several years of exploratory development. In the gaming domain, JD.com has formed partnerships to create industry alliances for mobile gaming and game-related pan-entertainment. In the books and literature industry, JD.com has set up a JD literary awards program.
