CCID: 2,000 TD-SCDMA Terminals Sold By April 10

China Business News, 4/16/08

According to CCID Consulting, information from retailers and manufacturers show that in the first ten days of TD-SCDMA sales, 2,000 terminals were sold in the eight cities running trials of the 3G standard - 1,800 handsets and 200 data cards.

Domestic manufacturers accounted for 60% of sales of handsets. ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) sold 495 of its U980 device, 26.8% of total sales, followed by Samsung with 20.8%; LG with 19.1%; Lenovo with 12.6%, Hisense (600060.SH) with 12.6% and New Postcom with 8.2%.

Samsung and LG each won a 7.5% share of orders in China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK)'s procurement, but accounted for 40% of sales - indicating that the popularity of overseas brands is carrying across to the TD-SCDMA market.
