Rumor: Tudou, Youku Purge Content Prior to IPOs

DoNews, 11/19/10

An industry source said today that the rival Chinese video sites Tudou and Youku will IPO on the Nasdaq and NYSE exchanges, respectively, in mid-December.

The source added that in order to reduce the risk of copyright claims in the run-up to their IPOs, both Tudou and Youku have deleted massive amounts of content - most of it either American and European TV shows or popular Chinese TV shows. "They've deleted more than 90% of it," the source said, adding that both companies have increased review efforts for uploaded content.
