Netease Tech, 7/11/11
According to the latest data from China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), the operator's warehouses held 581 different TD-SCDMA terminal models as of the end of May 2011, including 269 handsets, 130 wireless wireline devices, 75 data cards, 60 netbooks, 14 e-readers, and 33 residential gateways.
China Mobile currently has seven TD-SCDMA commercial chip suppliers, namely T3G, Leadcore Technology (a subsidiary of the Datang Group), Marvell, Spreadtrum (Nasdaq: SPRD), MediaTek (MTK), Chongqing CYIT Communication Technologies, and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), along with over 120 domestic and overseas terminal suppliers, including more than 50 handset vendors.
However, the TD-SCDMA terminal industry still needs time to mature when compared with WCDMA and CDMA2000 EV-DO. For example, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has over 300 CDMA2000 EV-DO handset models with over 280 supply chain partners.
