Court Yet to Reach Verdict on Sony TV Infringement Case

Tencent Tech, 4/25/12

Shanghai Shuimu Animation has sued Sony in a patent infringement case in Beijing's Haidian District People's Court. However, the court has yet to issue a verdict. Shanghai Shuimu Animation alleges that Sony and its partner, educational technology company Beijing Anview Technology, violated its copyright by making unlicensed broadcasts of TV series "5,000 Years of China." Sony (China) refuted that it is a technology services provider, and is not subject to infringement, and Anview Technology has challenged the compensation amount.

The Sony KDL-40NX710 LCD TV is able to access video services provided by Anview Technology, including the Shanghai Shuimu cartoon "5,000 Years of China." In July 2011, Shanghai Shuimu sued Sony Corporation and Anview Technology, ordering both companies to immediately stop infringing and compensate Shanghai Shuimu RMB 2.3 mln for economic losses.
