AliHealth Launches Third-party Product Tracking Platform

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) healthcare subsidiary Alibaba Health Information Technology (AliHealth) (0241.HK) recently launched a new third-party product tracking platform called Mashang Fangxin (unofficially "Rest Easy Code Check"), which will serve brand manufacturers, distributors, government agencies, and consumers. It will provide tracking services for manufacturers and distributors covering the entire product lifecycle and will also offer a public search interface to enable consumers to verify and track the history of various products. The platform will help government agencies at all levels to manage product quality control and safety.
The Mashang Fangxin platform will be compatible with the tracking standards used by the company's self-developed Product Identification, Authentication, and Tracking System (PIATS) and the China Drug Electronic Administration Platform to support free data migration for enterprises that used these platforms previously. The Mashang Fangxin website said that its public database searching and services offered to vaccine manufacturers will always be free, and that it will offer other enterprise users three years of free access to basic services including data migration, product code publication, and basic product flow tracking.
Editor's Note: In a phone interview with Marbridge, a Mashang Fangxin customer service representative confirmed that the platform will track a wide variety of products, including, but not limited to, pharmaceuticals. The representative could not confirm whether Mashang Fangxin is the same platform as the new third-party drug tracking platform AliHealth announced last month, but it is likely that it is, since the Mashang Fangxin platform allows pharmaceutical companies that had registered with PIATS and the China Drug Electronic Administration Platform to transfer their data to Mashang Fangxin.
