China PC Online Gaming Matrix - Q2 2016

China's PC-based online gaming market revenues reached RMB 40.7 billion (USD 6.2 billion) in H1 2016, up 2.9% YoY. Improved Internet penetration, up from approximately 50.3% at the end of 2015 to 51.7% at the end of H1 2016, rising average incomes, and the budding trends in virtual reality games and e-sports, supported positive growth, but the industry's top talent and resources continued to migrate to mobile gaming.

Client-based PC gaming revenues grew 5.2% YoY in H1 2016 to reach approximately RMB 28.1 billion (USD 4.3 billion), comprising 69.0% of total market revenues. Browser game revenues declined 2.1% YoY to RMB 10.1 billion (USD 1.5 billion), comprising 24.7% of total market revenues. Social game revenues remained flat in H1 2016 compared to the year-ago period at RMB 2.6 billion (USD 393 million), as user time previously spent playing social games increasingly shifted to mobile game play. Social game revenues comprised 6.3% of total H1 2016 market revenues.
