China PC Online Gaming Matrix - Q3 2015

China's PC-based online gaming market revenues reached RMB 86.9 billion (USD 14.0 billion) in 2014, up 21.0% YoY, and are on track to increase 9-10% in 2015. Improved Internet penetration, up from approximately 48% at the end of 2014 to roughly 49% at the end of H1 2015, rising average incomes, and increasing overseas expansion will support further growth in 2016. However, the rate of growth is expected to be more modest as China's major client-based game developers increasingly shift focus to mobile gaming and talent migrates towards mobile game development.

Client-based PC gaming revenues grew 13.5% in 2014 to reach approximately RMB 60.9 billion (USD 9.8 billion), comprising 70% of total market revenues. This rate of growth was considerably lower than the 2013 figure of 18.7%. Browser game revenues continued to record strong growth in 2014, rising 58.7% YoY to RMB 20.3 billion (USD 3.3 billion), accounting for 23.3% of the market. Social game revenues rose a very modest 6.8% in 2014, compared to 45% in 2013, to reach RMB 5.8 billion (USD 935 million), as user time previously spent playing social games increasingly shifted to mobile game play. Social game revenues comprised 6.6% of total 2014 market revenues.
