China Mobile Targets RMB 10 mln in Mobile Phone TV Revenues

During H1 2008, Shanghai Mobile and Jilin Mobile will reportedly put mobile television into commercial use, with revenues to be counted as key performance indicators. During H2, other provinces will follow in offering mobile television: under China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) plans, by December 2008, income from mobile television should reach RMB 10 mln or more, with mobile television possibly to be added to China Mobile's KPI assessments beginning in 2009.
At present, only Dragon New Media, CCTV and China Radio International have launched mobile television operations, splitting revenues evenly with China Mobile. A source familiar with the situation says that during H1 2007, total (pre-split) monthly revenues from mobile television were RMB 1 mln. In February 2008, total mobile TV revenues (pre-split, and not including traffic fees collected by China Mobile) were approximately RMB 3.5 mln. CCTV and CRI each accounted for approximately RMB 900,000; Dragon accounted for approximately RMB 1.8 mln.
