China Mobile to Spend RMB 10 Bln on TD-SCDMA Subsidies

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) VP Lu Xiangdong announced at a recent meeting of handset manufacturers that TD-SCDMA handsets will be divided into three categories. The first category, containing the highest-quality products, may be manufactured for China Mobile and be sold as part of a bundle or completely subsidized; the second and third categories of handsets will receive different degrees of subsidization depending on their features and relevant plans. China Mobile plans to invest RMB 10 bln in TD-SCDMA subsidies.

Lu also announced that China Mobile plans to provide discounts to 3G users, on the basis of unified 2G and 3G pricing.
