Rumor: Baidu Receives RMB 100 Mln in Government Cloud Subsidies

DoNews, 10/19/11

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has reportedly received over RMB 100 mln in cloud computing-related government subsidies, more than any other recipient.

Baidu plans to invest several billion RMB of its own capital to develop intelligent digital services and a public cloud computing platform. Baidu is a key member of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) committee to draft cloud computing standards, and developed an online OS and online language translation system for phase I of the Ministry of Science and Technology's 863 cloud computing project.

Baidu's current "open cloud computing" plan involves offering 1 TB of free storage space to any developer that applies.
