Rumor: Lenovo to Shift Business PC Production to Japan

MoneyDJ.com, 3/21/12

According to reports in Japanese media today, Chinese laptop, PC, and handset manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) is planning to transfer some of the manufacturing for its business PCs to Mate Co., a Japan-based manufacturing company controlled by Lenovo's Japanese joint-venture with NEC. The transfer will allow Lenovo to shorten the period required to ship orders, lower shipping costs, and improve brand image by labeling computers as "Made in Japan." The transfer could shorten the delivery period for products from the current ten days to as little as three days.
