Rumor: China Mobile to Expand Non-Operator Channels in H2 2012

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) reportedly plans to focus on developing non-operator channels and expanding partnerships with domestic handset distributors in H2 2012, particularly for TD-SCDMA terminal sales. China Mobile's TD-SCDMA terminal sales volume exceeded 25 mln units in H1 2012, and is expected to surpass 60 mln units for 2012. According to an industry source, a majority of consumers still choose to purchase devices through non-operator channels, but there continues to be a lack of affordable, high-quality TD-SCDMA devices available through non-operator channels.
