Rumor: WeChat Partners with Shenzhen Payment Firm on E-Coupons

Tencent's (0700.HK) Weixin (WeChat) mobile messaging application is reportedly in talks with Shenzhen-based integrated payment service provider UnionPay Financial Network about monitoring coupon usage. Weixin will reportedly integrate UnionPay Financial Network's "U Lian Shenghuo" electronic coupon and payment platform, allowing users to add coupons from U Lian Shenghuo merchants to their UnionPay bank cards. The coupons will automatically be applied when customers use their UnionPay cards to pay at participating businesses' POS terminals. Usage data for the coupons will automatically be sent to U Lian Shenghuo's backend platform for precise monitoring. U Lian Shenghuo and Weixin would receive a percentage of purchases from participating businesses.
