China Mobile Launches TDD/FDD LTE Network in Hong Kong

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) launched its dual-mode TDD/FDD LTE network today in Hong Kong. The 1,000 base stations used in the first stage of the network rollout were provided by Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and Swedish equipment maker Ericsson. China Mobile plans to reach 100% outdoor LTE coverage in Hong Kong by the end of the year. China Mobile's GSM network has previously reached 100% coverage in Hong Kong.
At the announcement ceremony, China Mobile revealed a new dual mode TDD/FDD LTE Grand Era LTE handset produced by ZTE. ZTE also announced the availability of the UFi MF93E and MF 825 handsets at the ceremony, both of which run on Qualcomm's second-generation MDM9215 LTE chipset.
