Update: Maternity Healthcare Platform Lamabang Lands Series D from Suning

36Kr.com, 2/09/17

Shenzhen-based Wangzhi Technology, operator of online and mobile maternity-focused SNS and e-commerce platform Lamabang, recently announced completion of Series D funding from Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Suning Commerce Group (002024.SZ). Following the funding round, Lamabang will use resource support from Suning to accelerate development of sales channels and cross-border business partnerships.

Suning's maternity and baby products B2C e-commerce platform Redbaby will work with Lamabang to integrate their respective business platforms, including their users, channels, online storefront, and advertising operations.

As of December 2016, Lamabang had more than 66 mln users, including nearly 10 mln monthly active users.

Lamabang, which has both a website and mobile app, provides maternity-focused information and articles for both expectant and new mothers. Users can consult with the platform's experts by sending them messages and images, and can also contribute posts and participate in forum discussions. The platform also has its own e-commerce channel which sells products for both mothers and infants.

In addition to the Lamabang platform, Wangzhi Technology also operates Yunqi Banlv, a healthcare management app which, among other things, allows both expectant and new mothers to record their weight and their baby's height and weight, store photographs, and view videos and other educational content about healthcare for babies. The app also allows users to directly access and make purchases from Lamabang's e-commerce channel.

Wangzhi Technology, founded in April 2004, raised USD 100 mln in Series C funding in March last year.

Editor's Note: In a telephone interview with Marbridge, Suning's media department declined to disclose the amount invested in Lamabang, but confirmed that it was Suning Commerce, rather than one of its affiliates, that invested in Lamabang.
